First Impressions: The World Ends With You & Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings

Before popping off on my wee holiday I grabbed The World Ends With You for my DS to pass the down time while away.  Lucky for me that I couldn’t help but have a quick play before going away as I didn’t really take to it.  I would mostly blame this on the main character being a rude tit, which I find very hard to put up with.   Yeah I don’t like GTA Niko much for being a fucking psycho, but at least he tends to be polite about it, and I can respect that in a character.   I’ve not traded it in or anything, as the reviews I’ve read seem to imply that it is a very good game, so I’ll at least give it a fair go and 30 minutes makes it super hard to write a fair first impressions, let alone give a decent comment on the game .

Instead of TWEWY, I played Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, which seems to be a lot more fun to my simple, short mission focused mind.  I might whack up a review when I finish it; I’m currently just short of around 40% complete, so I have a little way to go yet.  It’s a lovely little RTS-lite for simpletons, which you seem to be able to progress 99% of the time by just zerging the opposition with your whole team, which then rewards you with a little bit of shallow plot.  Throw in XP and loot and craftable items, and I’m off to the races!  To me, that’s the computer game equivalent of looking at the lingerie pages of your mum’s Kays catalogue when you are 9!

So yeah, The World Ends With You failed to grab me by the nuts on first play, but I’ve not completely disowned it, however FF XII:RW has not only grabbed a firm hold, but is currently swinging my round by them, and I’m loving it!

Oh man, did you end up doing a follow-up to this post anywhere? I hate RPGs but TWEWY’s the first RPG I’ve loved enough to play to completion for ages…
