Gamer Sin #3: Greed
Written by Neil "xibxang" Brooks on May 19, 2008 – 19:09Greed has been a difficult sin to quantify until the arrival of Xbox LIVE v2.0. Now, thanks to gamerscore is is much easier to see in people.
Gaming greed is the relentless pursuit of one-upmanship of fellow gamers. Gamerscore has presented itself as the perfect vehicle for this competitive vice and thus makes the greedy gamer easy to spot. Let me be clear: there is nothing wrong with enjoying a high gamerscore. After all, there is something very pleasing about having a little number to summarise how much you’ve enjoyed gaming on your 360 thus far. Ask any MMORPG player about watching the little numbers get higher to back this up.
However, playing the rank-rotten King Kong for the gamerpoints is where the sinning is at. Playing shit games to the detriment of your gaming hobby is greed. Playing shit games and trying to defend them as decent titles to disguise your intention to be “the best” is indeed greed. You know who you are, you greedy little schmucks.
To all you greedy little gamers: your score may look impressively high, but all it takes is a wee look at the games you’ve been playing to be outed. I sometimes like to do this and you should know that if I find you guilty, I laugh and laugh. Why? Because within an instant I know that my penis is bigger than yours (why else would you pursue such a high gamerscore, teeny-weener-boy?) and that I have gaming taste, class and honour, you filthy little sellout!
