Gamer Sin #4: Gluttony
Written by Neil "xibxang" Brooks on May 17, 2008 – 17:27Today’s Sin is Gluttony.
This one is far easier to recognise in hindsight than it is to pre-empt. We’ve all done this one before, bar none of us. We buy too many games then we could possibly ever have time to play properly but this never stops us. Gaming gluttony doesn’t even care if we actually have the spare cash lying around to be able to afford having too many games at once. No, as soon as the shiny new graphics, gameplay or both come out of the Studio du jour then we have to have it. Never mind the fact that we just bought Game of the Year #4 just last week and are only 4 hours into it. Game of the Year #5 has to be ours. Now.
There is a serious knock-on effect of gaming gluttony. If we have too many great games in your pile at once then we don’t play any of them properly. We’re too distracted with thinking about all the amazing games that we’re not playing to be able to concentrate on the title at hand. Like greedy little electronic entertainment whores, we dart from one to the other. Often the situation is compounded by reading internet gaming forums; we read about how great all of our games are and are whipped into a frenzy, not knowing what to play next.
The end result is usually great games being missed out completely and often traded in for the next wave of gluttony. On very rare occasions, we re-buy these titles moths later from the pre-used section but by then, the buzz is long gone and the chance of the biggest thrill is long dead.
Next time: Greed

this is probably my biggest sin by far
